Annapurna Circuit Trek

The Annapurna Circuit circles the Annapurna, taking trekkers from the warmer Marsyangdi valley through Chame, Pisang, and Manang before climbing to the 5,416-meter Thorong La Pass. From there, the route drops into the dry Kali Gandaki valley and continues through Muktinath, Marpha, and Tatopani before climbing again toward Ghorepani and Poon Hill.

This 18-day itinerary begins the walking portion at Dharapani. That means skipping the lower section of the Marsyangdi valley, where today’s road network now shares much of the route with trekkers. From Chame onward, the itinerary concentrates on the more traditional high-mountain sections of the circuit.

Few treks in Nepal offer such a rapid change in scenery. Within a single journey, you move from forested river valleys to the dry landscape around Manang, cross a high Himalayan pass, descend through Mustang’s rain shadow, and eventually return to rhododendron forest around Ghorepani. That variety is a major reason the Annapurna Circuit continues to attract trekkers from around the world.
